Clamshell Bursaries

Clamshell Bursaries

In addition, we offer two fully funded clamshell observer bursaries per course for senior nursing staff (band 6 and above). Observers undertake the role of a resus nurse in simulated scenarios, reflecting responsibilities typically undertaken in their day-to-day clinical practice. You will have access to the same face to face teaching as every other candidate throughout the day, with wet lab, lectures and clinical skills station teaching. Bursary places do not include access to the pre-course reading, handbook (£20 if you would like to purchase one) or certification through CARE; however, a letter of attendance, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Applications for observer places should be submitted via email and must include the following information:

  • Current employer or hospital

  • Job role, including whether you work in resuscitation and/or as part of a trauma team

For further information, please contact us at clamshell.bristol@gmail.com. If you wish to participate in the full course as a nursing candidate, please book through our online booking system.

Nursing Candidates

We are a multidisciplinary course and encourage senior nursing candidates (band 6+) to join the course. Places are bookable by specialty via our online booking system.

Applicants should be experienced adult or paediatric nurses currently working in emergency medicine, intensive care, or surgical settings. The course is particularly suited to nurses who regularly work in resuscitation environments or as part of a trauma team.

You may be eligible for support with fees through your trust charitable funding, or departmental funds held for educational purposes.

UHBW Hospital Charity Funding

UHBW Hospital Charity offers grants to UHBW staff to support training and professional development. We cannot guarantee that grants will be supported, but previous candidates have been successful in securing various types of charitable funding. Further details are available here.

If you are a doctor, please review your local approved course list for your training programme. We are a recognised approved course for anaesthesia, ICM, with other specialities in process.
